Nashik

Panchavati is a sacred and historic area in Nashik, Maharashtra. It is situated on the banks of the Godavari River. According to the Ramayana, Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana spent a part of their exile here, which gives Panchavati special religious significance. The name “Panchavati” means “a garden of five banyan trees.” It is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. Major attractions include Ramkund—a sacred bathing ghat—and Sita Gufa, where Sita is believed to have stayed.

At Ramkund in Panchavati, Nashik, the Godavari River flows southward (Dakshinavahini). The Kumbh Mela is held here every 12 years. It is believed that Lord Rama performed the Shraddha rituals of King Dasharatha at this very place, which gives it unique spiritual importance. It is also believed that the sin of Brahmahatya (killing of a Brahmin) committed by Lord Shiva was absolved after bathing in Ramkund.

Trimbakeshwar

Trimbakeshwar is a town and one of the major Hindu pilgrimage sites in the Nashik district of Maharashtra. The Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple located here is one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Shiva and holds immense religious significance.

The town is situated at the foothills of the Brahmagiri Hills, from where the holy Godavari River originates. The Shiva Linga in the Trimbakeshwar Temple represents three faces—Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh—which is a unique feature of this temple.

The temple is built in the Hemadpanthi architectural style and is considered extremely beautiful and historically significant.
